Welcome Ladies! (And gentlemen, if you're shopping for one.) Here's a little info about each of the categories of summer hats we offer to protect and compliment you - Ribbon, Natural Fiber and Cloth.
Ribbon Hats with Large and Extra Large Brims
These hats are predominately synthetic or blends of polyester and cotton. Some are a blend of straw and
ribbon (the TXM3378 or the RHX2597). The brim sizes range from 5" to 8" or (12.7 cm - 20.32 cm). Good sun protection, most pack easily, but obviously take up more room. (Ahem, a word with you: Please don't think you have to be tall or big to wear these hats . . . it's in the attitude ladies . . . yes, one can be overpowered by an XL brim, but don't let height or weight be a deterrent initially . . . let's talk about it!! 800 - 980 - 4287.
Ribbon Hats with Medium and Small Brims
In our shop every size brim is equally as popular. Depends on the use and your "super-star" threshold. Some women feel too self-conscious in big brimmed hats and they're not going to be sitting out all day in Cabo or Miami. Then go with a 4" or smaller brim. A basic bucket hat affords a lot of shade for the convenience and light weight. It's much easier to stick a cotton bucket hat in your dainty bag or purse than a giant sun hat. Of course there's the awful hair day. You just need something . . . anything! (and a pair of sunglasses . . . )
It's like shoes. Just one pair doesn't do it. So, a large brim for the beach and a smaller one for the city. Then various colors for various outfits . . . THIS IS EXCITING!!
Natural Fiber Hats
Includes raffia, usually from Madagascar, Panama from Ecuador, wheat straw and toyo.
I've included toyo in this category because it's a man-made straw. Sometimes
referred to as paper braid it's a cellulose material and can be woven with cotton,
hemp, nylon and even silk. Toyo is amazing stuff . . . very strong and breathable.
One of my favorite hats is a $130.00 Borsalino that's 100% paper, so don't be misled by it's meager sounding name. There is flat woven toyo and toyo braid which is the most popular for women's sun hats . . . or paper braid as
it's referred to. Most of it is can be dry cleaned and if it's from a good company holds up to just about anything you can do to it. I handle San Diego
Hat Co. and Jean Simmons, because of their high quality, to insure you're getting the best and won't need to take me up on my Lifetime Guarantee!!
Cloth Hats
Everything is essentially cloth, but here I'm referring to cut and sewn hats from sheets of fabric using a pattern vs. stitching a length of ribbon into a hat or weaving one. With cloth hats there is generally more range in design in the realm of sport hats and caps. I'm a fan of
micro fiber and various blends, but many of my customers are natural to the bone and insist on cotton or wool in the winter. Under
cloth (for now) is linen, cotton and a range of synthetics. More detail will be provided with the individual hat.
